What do people want?

Good question, in this case it applies to the gym and the groupfitness classes.
To start with, we're all individuals and we all think and feel different. We all have different goals in life and expect different things from it. So do the members in our classes. Some people come to the gym because they were told to do so, others are there to loose weight, some would like to get in shape, or to recover from injuries or maybe just to socialize with others.
And all these people, with different goals, thoughts and feelings, come to our classes.
What do they expect from me, or from other instructors? Wow, that's hard.... every single person expects something different from an instructor. Can I answer to all of that? Mmmm probably not, but I can give it a try. It's hard to satisfy everyone for 100%. Because if we do so, we forget about ourselves and after a while we get lost and won't be able to satisfy others at all. So don't even think of trying to keep everybody happy. Find the right way in between.
Get to know the people in your classes. Find out why they are coming to your classes, because when you know, you can help them to make it much more pleasant for them to keep coming back and maybe bring friends with them. Why should we push a person to lift more weights if someone's just there to have fun and just wants to be entertained. Safe that energy for the person who told you he/she wants to be stronger or fitter. Figure it out ... go the extra mile and stay after class, be at the gym early talk to your people.....
And participants, don't be shy to come up to your instructor, because they are always there for you, even when they seem busy. We are also only human :-), have one head with 2 eyes only. We might miss something, but we do not do it on purpose.

How did I get to this subject? Roel .... thanks!

Chantal, I am impressed by the text that you generate, collect and publish. Positive thinking is a powerful tool in reaching personal goals. That is what you demonstrate as a technical expert but moreover as an inspirator for the classes that you facilitate. This is in essence the context of the paper that you relate to. In the text that you write here more emphasis is on personal motives. Helping instructors and group participants to be aware of personal motives may surely help in strengthening them. Keep going, enjoying and be this inspirator! Best greetings RC
